A History Of Ashland, Kentucky 1786 - 1954, by the Ashland Centennial Committee, printed by Graber Printing Company, Ashland, 1954. First edition, quarto, 128pp, profusely illustrated with historical photographs, stiff printed pictorial wraps, light general wear and soiling, generally clean and bright, with short closed tear at edge neatly repaired on verso with archival tape. Published for the celebration of the Centennial. From the text, "The first three days of October, 1954, have been set aside for the celebration of the 100th birthday of the City of Ashland. The Celebration is based upon the actual starting of Ashland in 1854, when the Kentucky Iron, Coal & Manufacturing Company was chartered, purchased a large part of the present site of the city, laid it out into lots and Levi Hampton suggested the name of Ashland. As early as 1786 there had been the beginning of a settlement, known as Poage Settlement or Poage's Landing, on the banks of the Ohio, but it was not until 1854 that the real potentialities for a great industrial city were realized." Very scarce.
