About the Author- About The Author: George Thomas Bettany (1850–1891) was an English biologist, anthropologist, and author known for his accessible scientific writings. Educated at Caius College, Cambridge, he lectured on biology at Girton and Newnham Colleges and taught botany at Guy's Hospital (1877–1886). He edited scientific series for Ward, Lock, and Co., contributed to notable journals, and was the English editor for Lippincott's Monthly Magazine. Bettany authored works on botany, religion, and biographies, including Life of Charles Darwin.
