Rume Sudan Coffee (Coffea sp.) is a heritage Arabica variety originating from the Boma Plateau region in South Sudan, near the natural forests where Coffea arabica is indigenous. This cultivar is valued in the specialty coffee world for its distinct floral aroma, tea-like body, and refined acidity, often offering flavor notes of bergamot, orange blossom, and stone fruit. Despite its low yield compared to commercial varieties, Sudan Rume is highly prized for its exceptional cup quality and is often used in breeding programs to introduce superior flavor traits. The trees are tall and have elongated leaves, producing beans that are typically smaller but densely packed with aromatic compounds. Sudan Rume is also appreciated for its partial resistance to certain coffee diseases, making it a desirable parent in hybrid cultivars such as Geisha and other elite lines. Due to its rarity and low production, Sudan Rume is often produced in limited microlots for high-end markets.
