Shiva Lingams are worshipped in Indian temples and are a symbol of the Hindu god Shiva. These Shiva Lingams come from the sacred Narmada River and are polished and reshaped to a perfect oval shape. The naturally smooth egg shaped stones are also known as Banas, and regarded as highly auspicious by followers Shiva.
A rare and powerful gemstone from the Narmada riverbed itself, they come in a variety of sizes and colours, the most common being brown or tan with tiger-like stripes of red, brown and grey.
According to the Linga Purana, the lingham is a complete symbolic representation of the formless Universe Bearer. The oval-shaped stone is the symbol of the Universe, and the base represents the Supreme Power that holds the entire Universe in it.
