Item Description:
This auction is for an old leather flight jacket that belonged to a gentleman who was a US Navy pilot during the Vietnam War. He was with VA-216 Squadron also known as "Black Diamonds". Unfortunately all of the patches and name patch were removed from the jacket before I purchased it. It had a name patch on the front with another patch on the other side of the front and the back had two patches on it. You can still see the outline stitching areas where the patches were removed (see pictures 20 thru 24). The jacket shows wear from use with some scratches and scuffs.
The inside tag is marked Bureau of Aeronautics USN, Flight Jacket, Intermediate G-1, Specification MIL-J-7823 (AER), Cagleco Sportswear, Contract No N383-48082A, Size 36. The tag shows some wear. The inside liner has a wear hole right above the tag on the neck seam and also a wear hole in the armpit area and a wear hole near the bottom corner (see pics 6,7,8). The left shoulder has a small tear on the seam area (see picture 9). The wool wrist cuffs show heavy damage and the bottom wool waist piece has several holes in it (see pics 10 thru 13). On the back right in the center there is a spot where the leather looks cut some right where one of the patches was. Possibly done when removing the patch (see last picture).
Please take a look at all of the pictures for condition.
