The Vintage Murano Green Murrine Ashtray Pipe is a beautifully crafted glass ashtray made in Italy. Handmade with a unique green color with murrine pattern, this ashtray is 6 inches long and weighs 14 ounces. Based on the murrine pattern, the piece was likely made by Fratelli Toso, a renowned Murano glass company, established in 1854 by the six Toso brothers, that produced a wide range of artistic glass objects. They were known for their innovative techniques, including murrine and lattimo glass, and collaborated with prominent designers like Ermanno Toso, Guido Cadorin, and Giusto Toso. The company ceased production in 1982, but their legacy continues through their historic pieces and the ongoing work of their descendant. Murrine glass, also known as murrina, is a decorative technique in glassmaking where intricate patterns are created within glass canes (long rods) and then sliced to reveal the design when viewed in cross-section. These slices, called murrini, can be incorporated into various glass art pieces like vases, bowls, and other decorative items. Preowned in good condition with no cracks. There is a small chip at the top of the handle (see photo). Comes from a smoke free home.
