Late Edo – Meiji Period

A unique  kiri wood hibachi pair  richly adorned in an aristocratic style, with the surface  covered in intricate makie lacquer decoration. The lavish use of gold and the refined floral motifs reflect a high level of craftsmanship and aesthetic sophistication.Fine  and ornate lacquer work strongly suggest that this hibachi was originally commissioned for a person of very high social rank, likely a member of the aristocracy or an elite household. Every detail, from the deep, warm grain of the paulownia wood to the meticulous gold lacquer application, speaks of prestige and refined taste.

Despite its age, the piece remains in very good condition, with only minor losses, and retains a strong presence and historical charm. A rare and important example of luxury domestic furnishings from the late Edo to early Meiji period.
