Panas Myrny (real name - Afanas Yakovych Rudchenko, 1848-1920) entered the history of Ukrainian literature as an innovator of social novels, playwright, master of psychological prose. He is the author of books that are still in demand today and are included in the school curriculum. One of the best socio-psychological works of Ukrainian literature of the 19th century is considered the novel "The Whore", which is characterized by a wonderfully depicted Ukrainian life. Panas Myrny tells the story of the tragic fate of a beautiful peasant girl, whom poverty and persecution by local rich people forced to go to the city to earn money. But there, Khrystya, not of her own free will, becomes an outcast: circumstances and surroundings turn her into a prostitute, cause her suffering and push her into the abyss.
