An "F" type guitar with no angle on the head requires a string guide for the 1st and 2nd strings due to its structure. However the strings move. When using the tremolo arm applying vibrato or bending the strings the strings still move. Previous string guides were static. They were designed with the idea of how much friction between the fixed string guide and the freely moving strings could be reduced. This is to ensure that the string guide does not inhibit the movement of the strings as much as possible. Polishing the surface using lubricants using rollers etc. are all considered to reduce friction between the moving strings and the fixed string guide.
