Channel maintenance work or the start of new projects in the St. Mary's River necessitates the use of a subsistence and quarters boat by the Army Engineers for its survey crews when work involved is located in remote areas. Pictured here is the "St. Marys" employed as a subsistence and quarters boat since 1931 and accommodating a maximum of 22 men presently assigned to survey work on the St. Marys River in conjunction with the Great Lakes connecting channels project.Photo measures 10 x 8.25inches.
