This Wakizashi is in old polish with a well made shirasaya. It's EXTREMELY sharp, sharper than anything I've ever encountered! I would say it's condition is a bit tired with some skin left on it showing it's original style. I won't get into all the terms but if you want more pics or info just message me. It's O-Suriage meaning it was originally a long sword. There are 2 chiseled mekugi ana on the nakago, which some have said were used during battle for the "battle koshirae". I'm not sure how true that is but if it was my nihonto during battle, I think id want an extra hole/peg for support haha.
It's definitely pre Mino with many Shizu and Kaneuji features. Many pros have looked at this waki and said the same. I've been meaning to send for shinsa but time/ money / fear of being away from my sword all prevented me. I would place this waki in the mid/late nanbokucho era, early Muromachi if anything. Others have said possibly late kamakura but I don't know if I agree.
This waki has the best boshi I've ever seen. check pics. Also it's hamon changes colors and shapes depending on which angle/ lighting you're using. I've used a metal detector over this blade and it shows precious metals such as gold, palladium, etc... it's the only nihonto that has made the detector squeal with such intensity!
Also using different flashlights in the dark while twisting the blade to different angles reveals different colors, shapes, shadows, etc... But BLUE is always there. It's never gets old looking at this Nihonto! I could only imagine how magnificent it would have looked in it's full glory as a long sword. It's very thin and sharp, which only a true master could accomplish I'm guessing.
I'll update soon with length and everything but it's roughly 21"-22" TOTAL in length. Check pics. Look for one of the last pics and you'll see two swords with a yard stick/ tape measure. That's a rough measurement. Also only ONE sword is included in this sale! The 2nd sword is there for reference only and is an ubu Wakizashi which IS NOT included in this sale!
