The work obtained by the Institute of History of Ukraine HAH of Ukraine, member of the Board of the National Union of Local History Scholars of Ukraine Oleg Kornienko is devoted to both the history of the Ukrainian Cossacks and the history of the development of the Ukrainian language. The dictionary-lexicon contains over 2230 terms.

Its basis is mainly military vocabulary, as well as the most characteristic for the period of the second half of the 17th-18th centuries. words (mainly archaisms and historicisms), the meaning of which has radically changed or has already been lost. The structure of the dictionary consists of an introductory part, a list of abbreviations of explanatory notes, the main part, appendices and a list of sources used. The publication is supplemented with numerous illustrations.
