MoFi's Ultradisc UHR (Ultra High Resolution) series utilizes a proprietary mastering technology called GAIN HD (Greater Ambient Information Network HD). This technology, built upon the GAIN 2 mastering system, aims to preserve and enhance the sonic qualities of the original master tapes. It involves a multi-step process including high-resolution digital recording and mastering. 
Here's a more detailed explanation of MoFi's UHR and GAIN HD:
  • GAIN HD Mastering:

    This process begins with the original master tapes, which are played on a custom Studer tape playback deck designed by Tim de Paravicini. 
  • 4X DSD Recording:

    The analog signal is then converted to a high-resolution digital format (4X DSD) using Mobile Fidelity's proprietary 4X DSD A/D converter, which samples at 11.2 MHz. 
  • Downsampling for SACD and CD:

    The 4X DSD file is then downsampled to 1X DSD for the SACD layer and to 44.1 kHz for the CD layer, ensuring optimal resolution for both formats. 
  • Ultradisc UHR SACD:

    The final result is a hybrid SACD disc, containing both high-resolution SACD and CD layers. 
In essence, GAIN HD is MoFi's approach to capturing and preserving the sonic nuances of the original master tapes in high-resolution digital formats, resulting in what they claim are more lifelike and detailed sound recordings.

  • "Sealed" - New; unopened; unplayed. "Mint" 
  • "Excellent" - Practically new; very few or no signs of wear.
  • "Very Good" - A few light signs of wear &/or use. A few scuffs.  Slight wear.
  • "Good" - Some noticible marks on the play-side of the CD.  Normal wear / use.
  • "Fair" - several noticable scuffs on play-side of the CD.  Moderate or heavy apparent use
