Purpose

Ensuring movement in a given direction and direction finding of landmarks.

Used by light divers when working underwater.

Principle of operation and brief description

The principle of operation is based on the property of the magnetic needle to be installed in the plane of the magnetic meridian.

A card with a system of magnets is used as a sensitive element.

The compass has a transparent swivel body in the form of a truncated cone with a casing, on the upper surface of which there are an object and two eye finders used in direction finding, a card with a magnetic system of two magnetic needles, a fixed base and a strap for attaching to the hand.

The body and the bottom of the body attached to it form a cavity filled with a 50% aqueous solution of ethylene glycol; a card is placed in this cavity. 

On the outer side surface of the case there is a scale with divisions digitized through 30°. 

Numbers and strokes of divisions are covered with a light composition of constant action.

 In addition, two parallel course arrows are applied to the case, and on its cover there is a circle that serves as an indicator of the level necessary to keep the compass in a horizontal position. 

The second element of the level is an air bubble in the liquid that fills the compass.

The housing with the casing can rotate relative to the fixed base.

Reading on the compass scale is made through the slot of the index, rigidly connected to the base.
