1957 Press Photo San Francisco City Hall Destroyed & After Rebuilding

This is an original press photo. Nearly 51 years ago, April 18, 1906, a disastrous earthquake and fire virtually wrecked San Francisco. Among the buildings destroyed was the city hall (top). Yesterday, after more than 60 quakes in 24 hours, the city hall, which was rebuilt (below), stood undamaged. The recent shocks included the heaviest since 1906. Damage from the current earthquakes has been limited to broken windows, highways, grocery, department and liquor store merchandise and homes.Photo measures 6.5 x 10.5inches.
