About the Artist 

Mashita Takashi is a respected Japanese ceramic artist known for his work in Hagi ware (Hagi-yaki). Born in 1952, he studied at the Aichi Prefectural Ceramics Training School and later trained under master potter Odaka Masamine at the Masamine Kiln in Hagi, Yamaguchi.In 1980, he established his own kiln in Suita City, Osaka, where he continues to create works using a traditional noborigama (climbing kiln). His ceramics are celebrated for their soft glaze, earthy textures, and classic kan’nyū (crackled glaze) that develops character over time with tea use.Mashita’s works have been exhibited at major venues, including Hankyu Department Store and Gallery Centurion in Osaka, and are highly regarded among collectors and tea practitioners for their authentic craftsmanship and aesthetic purity.
