French designer born in 1965 who studied at the School of Fine Arts (Paris, France), Herve van der Straeten is renown for his jewelry collections, decorative objects in gold-plated bronze and furniture which he designs and crafts for his own gallery.

Herve Van der Straeten is a French designer of jewelry, home accessories, and other decorative items such as Dior's famed "J’adore” perfume bottle. He started his career in the 1980s and is now famous worldwide. His jewelry designs are known for their expressive and sculptural nature.

Herve Van der Straeten studied at the Ecole des Beaux-Arts in Paris, France. He got his start as a jewelry designer in 1985. He collaborated with several well-known fashion houses, including Christian Lacroix and Yves Saint Laurent. Since that time, he has been widely recognized for his jewelry and his unique take on home décor and accessories, including furniture and lighting.

While designing jewelry for Lacroix in the 1980s, Van der Straeten sketched many large, impressive pieces, including plastron necklaces with tribal influences. According to "Costume Jewelry for Haute Couture" by Florence Muller, "The virtuosity of Herve Van der Straeten’s sculpture jewels stole the limelight from the clothes.” When he began making jewelry under his brand, the designs were more Modernist in nature but equally impressive.
