About This Items
The Zero fighter was the mainstay of the Imperial Japanese Navy from its first campaign on the Chinese front to the end of the Pacific War.Following the Type I, which was operated in small numbers as a local fighter, the Type 21 was the first full-scale mass-produced model to be deployed mainly by carrier task forces. It was equipped with a landing hook, which is indispensable for a shipboard aircraft, and a Crucian radio return heading measuring device.Piloted by skilled crew members, the Type 21 overpowered Allied fighters in the early stages of the Pacific War, including the attack on Pearl Harbor, the invasion of the Philippines, and the Indian Ocean campaign, by taking advantage of its range of over 3,000 km, which defied conventional wisdom for single-seat fighters, its amazing combat capability, and its heavy armament of 20 mm machine guns. The Zero fighter's spectacular performance established the myth of its undefeatability. The kit faithfully reproduces the characteristics of the Type 21, including the engine and cockpit interior. The kit reproduces the Zero fighter's features and appearance down to the smallest detail. The Nakajima "Sakae" Type 12 engine, the driving force behind the Zero's high performance, has been faithfully reproduced with differences from the Type 52, including the smaller reduction gearbox, rear auxiliary equipment, and collective exhaust pipes. The engine support rack, oil tank, and in-fuselage fuel tank are also highlights of the model. The cockpit interior has been reproduced with the same three-dimensional effect as the Type 52, and the Type 21's unique equipment, such as the Type 96 Air No. 1 radio, has also been modeled without any modifications. The model can be stored in the package after completion.(The storage box is a temporary one using the package.)
