Attention

Located at the front of the engine, the timing chain is attached to a set of gears and pulleys that drive several mechanical components, including the crankshaft and camshaft. In order for your engine to fire, the timing chain must rotate smoothly around the gears without hesitation. Although made of metal, the timing chain is subject to wear and can break if not replaced as recommended by the factory. As the timing chain can fail and need to be replaced, it is important to be able to recognise the symptoms so that you can have it repaired before it fails completely.

If you find any of the following, it's time to replace the timing chain:

1) Your car has a rough idle, which means your engine is shuddering.

2) Your car backfires. The car seems to work harder than normal.

3) Your car will not start at all, indicating a complete timing chain failure.
