Exceptionally rare and stunningly beautiful, 1893 Joseph Schlitz Brewing Company, Souvenir, Advertising Booklet issued at the 1893 Columbian Exposition / Chicago World’s Fair.
This simply fantastic, Schlitz Brewing Company Advertising Booklet is fully titled “Jos. Schlitz Brewing Co. / Milwaukee, U.S.A.” and “Schlitz”. It measures approx. 5” in diameter and includes 9 paperboard leaves (including front and rear covers) that are die cut in the shape of a world globe. The front and rear covers are printed on one side only with the front cover featuring a beautiful bird’s-eye-view of Milwaukee and the rear cover features a bird’s-eye-view of the grounds of the Columbian Exposition.
The interior leaves feature stunningly beautiful, chromolithograph images on the front sides. These include scenes from around the world featuring bottles of Schlitz beer. The theme of the views is “The Unfailing Energy of the Schlitz Brewing Co. has Forced Its Way to the Remotest Corners of the Globe”. There is a view of arctic explorers dipping a bottle of Schlitz beer into a hole cut in the ice, American sailors passing out bottles of Schlitz Beer from their ship on the coast of South America, casks of Schlitz Beer being transported on elephants in India, Stanley finding a bottle of Schlitz Beer in Darkest Africa, a Southern Plantation owner drinking beer and being serenaded by a black banjo player on the banks of the Swanee River and a scene of Greek and Roman Gods, cherubs and allegorical figures drinking Schlitz beer in and around a hot air balloon in the form of the Schlitz Brewing Company Trade Mark.
The back side of each of the interior leaves feature beautiful engraved views in and around the Joseph Schlitz Brewing Company including fantastic and detailed views inside the Bottling Works, The Kettle Room, the Rack Room, the shipping facilities and the brewery’s offices. The Booklet is bound with its original, red silk ribbon and the leaves are viewed by rotating each counter-clockwise in succession. The Booklet is copyright 1893 and carries the mark of the lithographer – Beck & Pauli of Milwaukee.
You’re seeing all of the color pages but just one of the black and white – sorry but we are allowed to post only so many pictures.
This wonderful, 1893 Joseph Schlitz Brewing Company Advertising Souvenir Booklet is in very good condition. The Booklet is complete and intact. The covers are intact but there is a crease line in the left side where someone thought the “booklet” should be opened and the pages turned versus simply fanning them out.
An exceptionally rare and wonderful, 1893 Joseph Schlitz Brewing Company, Die Cut, Chromolithograph Souvenir, Advertising Booklet issued at the 1893 Columbian Exposition / Chicago World’s Fair and a fantastic addition to any collection!!!
