What started as a harmless hobby has officially gotten out of hand. Hi, I'm Jonas Denenberg, and I run Coins with a Human Touch. I'm a lifelong numismatist and when I was 17 (I'm 19 now), I decided to try my hand at eBay - hoping to add my "human touch" to every transaction by providing great coins at fair prices, great customer service, my own personality, and by building trust with my customers, instead of hiding behind a username. Chances are, you've bought from multiple people, maybe hundreds of people on eBay—and yet you know nothing about them. To you, they're just "bigshrimp9700"—no profile picture. Some of you spend thousands of dollars on eBay. While I do like big shrimp, who spends $2000 on a coin from somebody named after a shrimp!? Not here. For you to get to know me, I wanted to share the story about how my hobby grew beyond my wildest dreams, and how things thoroughly got out of hand.
I think I probably got into coin collecting when I was six. My father was rummaging through 1980s keepsakes from his childhood and pulled out a half-finished collection of Lincoln Cents. I thought this was so cool, because as we all know, the 1980s were a long, long time ago (sorry old guys). So, we went to Barnes and Noble (do those still exist?) and bought a few coin folders to start my collection. I spent many years having lots of fun searching through my father's change, attempting to fill every hole, although I never quite found the 1909-S VDB...

CONTINUED: Everything changed one day at my grandfather's house. He had just unearthed a collection his father had stashed away, and what I saw inside shocked me: There were two-cent coins, large cents, three-cent nickels, and more. I hadn't even known these existed, so you can imagine my surprise to learn that we used to have pennies larger than a quarter and nickels that were only worth three cents. I was hoping that my grandfather would let me keep just one coin—but to my amazement he gave me the entire collection. I was thrilled.
Back home, my parents helped me order a Whitman Red Book and a stack of 2x2 flips. I spent days researching, cataloging, and carefully housing the coins. I learned a lot—not just about what I had, but about countless other fascinating coins I knew I had to own someday. A year later, I went to my first coin show, met other collectors, and began spending basically all my money on coins. I joined the Virginia Numismatic Association, the American Numismatic Association, and became a charter member of the Fairfax Coin Club when it launched in 2017.
Fast forward to 2021. I was bored at home (because, well...), and by this point I had acquired countless coins. On Instagram, I had begun following a decent number of people into coins and noticed how excited other people were to buy things. So, I took a few spare Barber Half Dollars that I had and made a post listing them for sale. To my astonishment, someone agreed to buy them within 15 seconds. Not having a job, I suspected that I could make a bit of money selling coins, so I took my life savings (about $1000) and decided to start a coin business.
From there, things exploded. I built a following on Instagram and gained new customers, from people I knew in person to multi-million dollar and even billion-dollar corporations. At one point I received a $15,000 loan from another coin dealer to fund growing operations. Keep in mind that at this point I was 14! Things kept growing and growing and growing. I think my parents grew dismayed when shipments of wheat pennies so heavy they needed a forklift arrived at our house unannounced. The mailman told me that I received more mail than anyone else on his route. I went to every coin show in our area in search of inventory. Even this proved to not be enough.
By 15, I was traveling around the U.S. on my own to source inventory at shows. At first it was one-offs, like flying to the World's Fair of Money in Chicago. But within a year, I was hitting as many as ten shows a month. A typical trip might mean Alabama one day, New Jersey the next, or Denver one weekend and Omaha by train the next day. With all this travel, the business grew quickly: $100,000 a year in revenue, then $200,000, then $300,000 and beyond.
Things eventually reached a point where I had more inventory than my customers were willing to buy, so a few years ago I began selling on eBay. Once again, you all surpassed expectations, fueling even more growth and travel. It is not uncommon for me to have 50 to 100 orders in a day! To keep up with this demand, I now attend over 100 coin shows a year sourcing inventory from across the United States. A typical week might look like a show in Arkansas on Friday, Seattle on Saturday, and Cincinnati on Sunday. I do this while going to college full-time at Michigan Tech, and juggling a few other business ventures too. It's a lot!
What began as a childhood hobby has grown into a full-fledged business that still carries the same excitement I felt when I first opened that old Lincoln Cent folder. Please, if you have a moment, take a look at my eBay store or message me with any questions. I try to respond quickly and to the best of my ability. I really do try to live up to the Coins with a Human Touch name by providing good, fair, high quality service. If you continue reading this description, I'm sure that you will find my policies to be quite generous compared to some other people on eBay. If this sounds refreshing to you, and if you want to keep up with me, I hope that you will consider following my page by saving me as a seller. And if you ever see me in person, please stop and say hi! I look forward to helping you find the next coin that makes your collection and your story shine.
Thanks a lot!

Please, take a close look at the photos. I do not edit or touch up the photos, besides cropping out the background. I do my best to make sure they accurately portray the item, I do not attempt to hide defects or issues. As I list thousands of items a month, I do not provide extended descriptions for most coins as it's simply impossible (unless I used AI, which... yuck!). However, I do try to give a solid overview in the item title, and additionally I try my best to point out any defects in the item title.

International orders may be subject to various taxes, fees, and duties. In some cases, eBay will give you the option to pay these in advance and in other cases they may not. I have zero control over these. In some instances, you may have to pay these charges to your country's postal carrier before receiving your order. Sometimes, these charges can be a significant portion of the order's value. I highly recommend checking local import laws. PLEASE NOTE that I will not issue refunds for items undelivered due to failure to pay customs charges, unless the item is returned to me by the postal carrier. This can take several months, if they do decide to return it. Thank you for your understanding!
When you checkout, you have the option of paying to upgrade to USPS Priority International Shipping. Please note that although USPS advertises a delivery timeframe of 6 to 10 business days, this service can still take several weeks.

Taking USPS to the ExtremeOn December 16, 2024 I sent 4000 pounds of mail - my personal daily record. The mail contained food I gave away to rural Alaskan villages. Delivering the mail entailed tiny planes, helicopters, and snowmobiles. |
