You are
bidding on an interesting older Cardinal Jozsef Mindszenty
medal that measure 11/4” in diameter and measure 1/16” thick. There is
also a ¼” pendent loop. I believe that these are made of gold tone
metal. Jozsef Mindszenty was born on March 29, 1892 and was a cardinal,
the head of the Roman Catholic Church in Hungary . Cardinal Jozsef
Mindszenty was known as a supporter of Church freedom, opponent of
communism and Stalinist persecution in his country. He was tortured for
his beliefs and was given a life sentence in a trial in 1949. In 1959 he
was freed during the Hungarian Revolution of 1956. Cardinal Jozsef
Mindszenty was granted political asylum and lived in the U.S. embassy in
Budapest for 15 years. He was allowed to leave his country in 1971.
Cardinal Jozsef Mindszenty dies in exile in 1975 in Vienna , Austria .
The front of each medal reads “HIS EMINENCE JOSEPH CARDINAL MINDSZENTY *
1949”. The back reads “THROUGH THE MOST POWERFUL INTERCESSION OF THE
VIRGIN MOTHER OF GOD. LET US PRAY GOD FERVENTLY THAT THOSE WHO SUFFER
PERSECUTION, IMPRISONMENT AND HARDSHIP MAY BE CONSOLED WITH THE
NECESSARY HELP OF HIS DIVINE GRACE. HIS HOLINESS POPE PIUS XIII”. You
will find that these medals have just a few surface scratches, some
pitting and a bit of oxidation. They are in very good condition. If you
have any questions, please ask before bidding. I will do my best to answer you.hide
