Description
●The Epsilon optical system is a Takahashi original optical system that combines a concave primary mirror with negative power and a reducer-type correction lens with positive power to reduce the Petzval sum, which is a condition for correcting field curvature, to zero. By making the aspheric coefficient of the primary mirror hyperbolic, spherical aberration and coma aberration are also reduced to zero. Because the image surface behind the correction lens is flat, attaching an extender for a camera lens expands the convergent light rays, so if the focal length is doubled, the aberration will worsen by four times, resulting in a star image that is no different from a cropped image.
●The newly released ε extender is made up of seven lenses in five groups, and is specially designed to match the model to correct coma aberration and expand the focal length by 1.5 times, but it is an ultra-high performance extender that can obtain star images equal to or better than those obtained with a direct focus.
The ε-130D extends from 430mm f/3.3 to 650mm f/5.0, the ε-160ED extends from 530mm f/3.3 to 800mmF/5.0, and the ε-180ED extends from 500mm f/2.8 to 770mmF/4.3.
●In terms of optical performance, the RMS-SPOT diameter is 2 microns for the ε-130D and 8 microns for the full-size periphery, 1 micron for the ε-160ED and 3 microns for the full-size periphery, and the ε-180ED is a high-performance design with 2 microns for the center and 5 microns for the full-size periphery. In addition, since it is an extender, it becomes a divergent light system compared to the main focus, which is a converging light system, so there is less falloff in the amount of light around the periphery, and all models secure more than 60% of the light around the full-size periphery.
●In addition, the visual performance is also very good, and the high magnification performance is also very good, thanks to Takahashi's aspheric polishing technology. It is extremely compact for an f/5 Newtonian, and by using an extender the f-number increases and the burden on the eyepiece is reduced compared to when it is at prime focus, making it an ideal reflecting telescope with no coma aberration, even though its shape is a short-focus Newtonian type.
