Description

Don Hesse, original pencil newspaper political editorial cartoon drawing on paper of the Ayatollah Khomeini in a "holy cloud" announcing the revolution in Iran in 1979, 9 by 12 inches, unsigned, in very good condition as small piece of paper has been torn from the upper right corner.  The editorial drawing was one of many by Hesse that showed the rise in Islamic takeovers of government and the subsequent rise in terrorism in the Mid East at the end of the Carter presidency.

Don Hesse (1918-1985) was the editorial cartoonist of the St. Louis Globe-Democrat from 1951 to 1984.  He was one of the most important conservative editorial cartoonists in the country who actually introduced the young Globe editorial writer Pat Buchanan to his friend Richard Nixon at a 1965 party at his home.
