It was the undisputed social event of the year in this college city of blue jeans and draft beer. Five hundred $25-tickets were sold out in two days. Three thousand dollars in checks had to be sent back. The band alone cost $6,000. And bubbly flowed like champagne from five stereotypically well-endowed Playboy Bunny hostesses who, like some of the fraternity brothers, showed up in tails. What began as a Pi Kappa Alpha fraternity brother's back-room scheme had mushroomed into a gala 25th anniversary celebration Saturday night for the slickest of the slick smoke-jacket-skin-and-literature magazines: Playboy.
