"The Heritage" is the romantic and suspenseful story of Peter Bradford, a young Irish American who is the heir apparent to the title and the estate of an Irish great uncle he has never seen. In the course of an all night journey from London to Dublin on the Irish Mail, Peter falls in love at first sight with a beautiful French girl who is traveling on the same train and the same ship. His upbringing has been that of a proper Bostonian; his mother has never returned to Ireland since her marriage; even his Irish maternal grandmother, Lady Susannah Glover, whom he dearly loves has been powerless to break the ties that bind him to Beason Hill - until they are abruptly ruptured by Peter's fateful encounter with Anne, the mysterious French girl.
