This is a great MCM or MCM Style art print. Everything about it is so retro, right down to the colors chosen for the matting and the frame (a funky teal, almost) and then the texture chosen for the frame. To me, it has a strong 1980s vibe. And it is large! This measures approximately 26 inches by 20 inches (frame). At some angles, I seem to see a slight darkness only on the matting at the left. In other light and at other angles, it seems to disappear. I had already cleaned the glass. But I'm wondering if it's maybe a little smudgy on the inside of that glass. That or possibly the matte absorbed some of the glue behind it. This does not affect the print, of course. I always try to disclose anything I notice though. If you go through the variety of photos you will see what I mean. It tends to disappear and I don't think it would be visible to most people observing this artwork on the wall. I tried to find the artist by image searching and just could not come up with anything. And I also tried that signature but I'm not sure I deciphered it correctly. The algorithm kept suggesting this was a work by Marcel Mouly. One can imagine the influence from that artist of a previous generation on this sort of genre of abstract sailing vessels. The wide spectrum of color is sort of delicious. And you know how decades have house styles. This is sort of one of the abstract house styles of the 1980s and even the 70s really. There is a weird pareidolia effect on the sailing vessel itself. You think you see a creature or an animal or a mythological figure. See my last photo for what I am talking about. It almost looks like a gryphon at the oars. Or some monster or mythological creature has escaped its Island and is sailing towards us. I think it is just an effect of the brushstrokes of color creating a pareidolic illusion. But it's sort of neat. Also the primary triangle, depending on how you look at it and what distance, can look like the sailing vessel's sails, a whale breaching, or a large ship like the Titanic going down. It phases between different images. If you like retro art, this definitely feels like time traveling to the '80s or late 1970s. Nice color and just a soupcon of trippiness! You know your doctor or optometrist would hang it lol!
