Orthodox Christian Icon of Panagia Hodegetria

This striking woven tapestry features the revered Orthodox Christian icon Panagia Hodegetria, depicting the Virgin Mary presenting Christ as the true path to salvation. The name Hodegetria, meaning “She Who Shows the Way,” originates from Byzantine tradition, where this image was believed to have been painted by Saint Luke.

The Virgin Mary is shown solemnly gazing at the viewer while Christ, clothed in a white and red robe, holds a scroll, symbolising divine wisdom. The Greek inscriptions “MP ΘY” stand for Meter Theou (Mother of God), a hallmark of Byzantine iconography.

Framed with an ornate metallic border and adorned with dangling crosses, this tapestry carries both spiritual significance and artistic beauty. Its rich red and gold tones enhance its sacred presence, making it a perfect piece for prayer spaces, church decor, or as a meaningful religious gift.
