Antique Ceremonial "Tapis" Textile, Lampung, Early 20th C. This antique woman's ceremonial tube skirt, known as 'tapis,' originates from south Sumatran province of Lampung, Indonesia. This exquisite piece shows the skilled craftsmanship of the region through gold-wrapped couching and stumpwork. Tapis, heavily ornamented ceremonial sarongs, are traditionally made and worn by women. They are made from handwoven cloth strips of dyed cotton and silk threads, then sewn together in a tubular shape, and adorned with gold, silk, and other precious materials

The condition is excellent.  We note a few small holes at the selvage end as well as some tiny spots.  It does appear to have some uneven fading as pictured and as consistent with its age.
