What a RARE find, one of these little GDE KONING TILLY embossed bottles WITH the paper label still on it! For years we'd dug these bottles up and ones with weird similar embossing as well, and always figured they were crude little embossed OPIUM style vials. Now we find out for sure that they were a HAARLEM OIL bottle. That may sound harmless and today it is still in use as a detoxifier and energy supplement, but Haarlem oil over the centuries has been used for many things. The word haarlemmerolie (haarlem oil) is used in Dutch to indicate a fix for all problems, like a panacea, a cure-all. It was invented in 1696 by Claes Tilly and was marketed as a cure for many ailments since that time. It is probably no coincidence it looks like an OPIUM VIAL as at one time or another, or for most of the time, it no doubt contained opium as how else would it of gotten the reputation of being a CURE ALL, PANACEA, and used to treat MANY DIFFERENT conditions? Sounds like an opium based product was once in this bottle making it an opium vial, as suspected. According to the label it was produced in Haarlem, Holland, by GKT, which is short for Gde Koning Tilly, the name that is embossed into the glass of the bottle, check it out!
