An 8 3/4 inch wide fancy AUTHENTIC ANTIQUE souvenir advertising plate from OMAHA NEBRASKA. This is a super THICK wide HEAVY plate that is embossed with a cross-hatch pattern all around the picture and then on a flat square section between the embossed patterns, is a wonderfully detailed picture of the 'new' BOSTON fire-proof STORE which was built after the original one burnt down. This is an ORIGINAL ANTIQUE plate with a maker's mark on back, dating from the 1890s era, possibly 1894 shortly after it was built. - Plate reads: "Compliments of BOSTON STORE OMAHA. ... BOSTON STORE NEW FIRE - PROOF BUILDING. COR 16TH & DOUGLAS STS."
- Back reads: "DRESDEN / WARRANTED / CHINA" with a picture of a GLOBE.
- Condition: Plate is in GOOD SOLID condition. It has a few minor scrapes/scratches, age wear, and the picture/advertising has some light wear, all as seen in the pictures. There is nothing specifically wrong with it. NO cracks, hairlines, chips, fractures, fading, staining, or damage, etc. Please see pictures for best idea of overall appearance / condition. The plate holder is NOT part of this sale, it is just a prop to hold the plate for photo'ing.
- Age: An ORIGINAL ANTIQUE China advertising plate, ca. late 1800s.
- Shipping: FREE DOMESTIC shipping. We DO ship Internationally but we do NOT insure International orders UNLESS BUYER SPECIFICALLY REQUESTS THIS AND WE ARE ABLE to provide an insurance estimate. It is becoming increasingly difficult to insure international orders and the price can exceed the price of the item, which can negate the sale. If an international shipping charge is much more than the actual shipping cost, we will refund the excess so what YOU pay for shipping/insurance is very close to, if not exactly, the ACTUAL shipping costs! This is important for foreign buyers to know as most of our foreign shipping charges are estimates. We do not falsify information on the Customs Form, such as a price other than what the actual purchase price is, so please do not request us to do so. We ship several times a week and your prompt payment will hasten the turn-around time.
This is a super detailed plate. The whole face of the plate has a basket weaver's pattern, like a basket shaped plate, and then there is a flat rag-rug/place-mat design over the basket embossing, that the picture is in this flat space. According to the research we conducted it sounds like the 'new fire-proof Boston Store was built in 1894', just where this plate says it was, on the corner of 16th and Douglas Streets. As the plate reads, the picture is of the "NEW ... BUILDING ... ", which would date this plate to right around 1894. Antique souvenir China advertising plates like this are always very popular as 1) they have the name of the town that they are souvenirs of, 2) they have very detailed scenes, pictures, designs, logos on them. 3) you can date them based upon much of this information. Note that this plate has HORSES and WAGONS instead of automobiles, which likewise dates this as a ca. late 1890s era plate. All of this together make for a great relic of Omaha's newly built BOSTON STORE in downtown Omaha Nebraska, check it out!
