This old bowl has the very typical circular design in the centre, with geometric motifs that suggest different forms from the natural world - in this case, a frog. Frogs have an important place in Sepik mythology and a view of the world. But what makes this bowl special, is the large, 3-dimensional face beautifully carved outside the central motif.
This bowl has obviously been used over many generations.
