This 7/8-inch pin was issued to honor the 25th Anniversary of the Weekly People, the paper of the Socialist Labor Party. It features the picture of Daniel DeLeon who was editor from 1892 until his death in 1914 and was the intellectual leader of the party. On the pin are the words, "Weekly People", the dates 1890-1915, and "25th Anniversary." After a party split in 1899, there followed a period of organizational dualism, in which two groups both claimed for themselves the mantle of the Socialist Labor Party, each with their own officers and their own official English-language newspaper called The People. It was during this interval that the publication published by the DeLeon faction re branded itself as The Weekly People to aid in the process of differentiation. The paper changed to a daily frequency in 1900, thereby becoming The Daily People, ultimately reverting to the previous name in 1914 when financial concerns forced a retreat to weekly status. Pin is in very good condition.
