RESIDUAL TANNERY SMELLS
Sometimes the rugs may arrive with a lingering smell of the tannery. Some people think this makes it feel more authentic! However we appreciate the smell isn't the most appealing and not what you want when you first open your rug - it's an acquired smell!
This smell will dissipate within a day or two once it has been allowed to air in situ. It can also be aired on an overcast/dry day with a little breeze to blow through. Ensure it's not left in direct sunlight/heat but the fresh air and breeze will help remove the smell faster.

It is advisable to display your sheepskin in your home away from direct light sources. Direct sunlight exposure will compromise the tanning and dying process of the rug causing colour changes and also reducing natural oils within the skin that keep your rug supple.

Due to the natural properties of the skin we would recommend avoiding harsh chemicals or machine washing.

Regularly brushing through your rug to remove dust and dirt particles and to revive the "fluffiness" of the wool will help keep your rug looking great.

For stain treating - we would recommend spot cleaning your rug if needed using a wool & leather safe product. Ensuring not to saturate the rug and allowing to dry naturally away from any direct source of heat or sunlight and brushing through after.

Unfortunately we can never guarantee how every skin will handle a more intensive cleaning process which is why recommend you seek professional advice from a specialist leather and sheepskin cleaner who can determine the condition of your sheepskin and the stain treating options. We would suggest using a Siloxane Green Earth method.

However, many people do opt to wash their sheepskins at home in the washing machine. On a low temperature, low spin wash using a wool safe gentle detergent these can cope quite well. Ensuring you dry naturally away from any direct sunlight or heat source and brush through these can often come up great. However a lot of factors can impact how your rug will withstand washing and we aren't able to guarantee results.
