1945 Press Photo Mrs. Van Der Elst and driver arrested during protest in London
London, England - A crowd of 250 persons gathered outside the Pentonville Prison to protest against the hanging of PFC Karl Gustave Hulten, U.S. Paratroopers from Boston, who was executed for the killing of a London taxi driver. Two of the demonstrators who were arrested were Mrs. Van Der Elst, well known champion of the abolition of the capital punishment, and, at right, the driver of a Lorry who tried to crash his car into the prison gates during the protest demonstration.
