Old-Imari is the general term for porcelain produced in Imari (now Arita, Saga Prefecture) during the Edo period.   Old-Imari is highly valued both at home and abroad for its beauty and high quality.   Sometsuke and kinrande are typical styles. It is characterised by works in which red and gold overglaze paints are lavishly used on dark-some indigo-coloured base, and works decorated with gorgeous patterns using gold mud and gold powder on top of coloured paintings, and its diverse pictorial patterns and decorative qualities are gorgeous and gorgeous, reflecting the Genroku culture of the time.    The paintings depict plants, animals, geometrical and arabesque patterns.   Another feature is that the long passage of time has given the surface a historical dullness and a subdued lustre.
