This is a post-WW2 (after Oct. 1946) Gruen Pan American mechanical (hand wind) watch with a 17 jewel 420ss movement. The watch has been serviced and provided with a new acrylic crystal and mainspring. It currently runs and keeps fairly good time (about 3 minutes loss per day), but this a 70+ year old watch and there are no guarantees on future performance. I will pack the watch securely, but I have no control over how the shipping company handles the package.
I do my best to describe items accurately (see condition description above) and to take good pictures that represent the item as clearly as I can. All items are pre-owned and in used condition. I cannot guarantee that they contain all original parts. The watch is sold "as-is" and I do not accept returns. I do not ship outside of the United States.

A brief history of the Gruen Pan American watch:

• At the start of WW2, Pan American Airlines dropped all commercial operations and flew exclusively for the U.S. military. Pan Am's network of bases and airports in the Pacific and Asia became a valuable military asset.
• Starting in 1943, Gruen produced a series of watches exclusively for Pan Am flight crews (not sold to civilians). These had 24-hour dials and17 jewel, 420ss movements.
• After the war, starting in October 1945, the Pan American line (round and other shapes) went on sale to the public.
• My belief is that the watches issued to Pan Am pilots and crew during the war are stamped “Pan American” on the back case. Post-war civilian issued watches are not stamped as such.
