Description
VINTAGE RAILROAD CHINA FIGURINE
Lovely vintage Fred Harvey girl railroad china figurine measuring 2-7/8" tall. Sold by the Fred Harvey souvenir and gift shops in the 1950s, figure is hand painted with crisp detail. Marked EARLY HARVEY GIRL, she stands next to a short table with tea set. Harvey girls served the railways at the turn of the century, but were popularized again in 1946 with the release of the movie of that name starring Judy Garland. The girls came from all walks of life, mostly from the East, to serve in the restaurants along the railroad routes. Know for their strict moral codes, most worked along the Santa Fe Railway routes. Condition is mint - porcelain is finely molded and thin - marked Japan. Fun addition to any historical railroad memorabilia collection!
