DESCRIPTION

Up for your consideration is an Nippon plate with an extremely rare red glaze.  The glaze is thick, and has a unique  pooling (like a celedon glaze) in the crevices, where the red is more intense.  The plate is further adorned with moriage and turquoise jewels.  I have never seen a similar piece either in my catalogues or in person.  

It measures 10.75" in diameter, and is in excellent condition, free of chips, cracks, or losses to the jewels or delicate moriage.  There are a few factory flaws, including two areas where the turquoise bead was somewhat irregular, and shows some white porcelain to the perimeter of the bead, and a minor irregularity to the applied porcelain in the center.  There is a tight hairline flaw to the glaze on the back.  It is glaze level, and does not extend into the porcelain or show on the top side.  The plate "rings true" when tapped.
