Little Rock is the capital of Arkansas and the largest city in the state. It's located on the Arkansas River in the center of the state, where the Ozark Plateau, Delta lands, and rolling plains meet.

  • History
    The city was founded in 1722 by French explorer Bernard de la Harpe, who named it La Petite Roche after a rock formation on the riverbank. Little Rock became the capital of Arkansas in 1821. 
  • Culture
    Little Rock has many cultural institutions, including the Arkansas Museum of Fine Arts, the Arkansas Repertory Theatre, and the Mosaic Templars Cultural Center.

    In 1957, Little Rock became the focus of national attention when Arkansas state troops tried to prevent nine Black students from attending Central High School. President Dwight D. Eisenhower sent federal troops to the city to ensure the students could attend. 
  • Economy
    Little Rock is a center for government, transportation, culture, medicine, and tourism. It's also a major manufacturing and food processing center.
