Kawase Hasui, “May rain (Arakawa)”, post-press print.
Kawase Hasui was a student of Kiyokata and was influenced by Fukasui's “Eight Views of Omi” to become a printmaker.
Hasuui became a pioneer of new prints, producing more than 600 works over the course of his approximately 40 years of painting.
The blue color known as “Hasui blue” is Hasui's signature color, and the various shades of blue that represent water and air have attracted not only the Japanese but also many foreigners, including Steve Jobs.
