This nearly 100 year old hardcover book is a collection of Richard Aldington poems and was published in 1928 by Covici Friede in New York. The previous owner's name, Virginia Covici, is written in the front with the date 1931.  She was the niece of the publisher, Pascal Covici. The pages are a thick quality paper with a deckled edge and a great vintage patina. The only pen/pencil markings are the previous owner's name. The brown cover has ochre yellow lettering and designs motifs on the spine.  The cover has wear, more so at the edges. See photos for conditions. 



Richard Aldington (1892-1962) was an English writer and poet. He was an early associate of the Imagist movement. His 50-year writing career covered poetry, novels, criticism and biography. Pascal Covici (1885-1964) was a Romanian Jewish-American book publisher and editor, best known for his close associations with authors such as John Steinbeck. Covici Friede publishing company operated from the late-1920's to 1938.  His relationship with John Steinbeck is portrayed in the book Steinbeck and Covici: The Story of a Friendship, edited by Thomas Fensch.  Pascal Covici - Wikipedia

Virginia Covici ...'(1913-2008) had led quite an interesting life. A social organizer spawned in the Leftist-leaning '30's, she went to Spain during the Civil War. After her husband's death in 1959, she started a whole new life, securing a graduate degree in Social Work and spending the next 30 years in the San Francisco Bay Area teaching (at SF State), and working as an organizer. By the time I met her, she'd moved to Portland, but was as feisty and active (in her Eighties) as anyone I'd ever met of that age.
