You will receive 15 Ponderosa pine tree seeds similar in size and color as in the photos. These are fresh seeds for maximum viability, collected September 2024.
The Ponderosa Pine (Pinus ponderosa) is a large coniferous tree native to western North America, known for its tall, straight trunk and thick, scaly bark, which is often a distinctive orange-brown color in mature trees. It typically grows 90 to 130 feet tall but can reach heights over 200 feet in ideal conditions and live up to 600 years! Its long needles are grouped in bundles of three, and it produces large, woody cones. The Ponderosa Pine is highly adaptable to various climates and soils in USDA zones 3-7, making it a dominant species in many western forests. Its wood is widely used for construction, and its ability to survive fires due to its thick bark makes it ecologically significant.
Sowing recommendations:
Soak seeds in water for 24 hours. Plant seeds 1/4" deep in the fall to expect germination in the spring. Otherwise, cold stratify for 60 days before sowing for maximum viability.
