The Dapples series was introduced in 1995. It was comprised of horses, dolls, plastic tack and various accessories all aimed at the younger collector. In 1998 the Dapples were reborn as the "Breyer Ponies" series, complete with more realistic horse coloring. The horses in this line were sculpted by Kathleen Moody in an approximately 1:12 scale, and feature more human-expressive faces and larger eyes than real horses. Although some collectors have become quite interested in this line, it is largely a toy line for young children.

Note: The "Young Riders" and "Young Mare & Foal" sets are smaller than the regular Dapples/Ponies models and cannot wear standard Dapples/Ponies tack or accessories. In 2008 Breyer replaced the Ponies with the Pony Gals, which kept the "comb-able" haired manes and tails but added moveable joints and returned to the more realistic horse features found in Breyer's other products.
