This is a vintage antique sample of barbed wire fencing.   This sample features a two different patented barbs.  First is a Hiram B. Scutt patent, dated August 01, 1876, and second is a Purches Miles patent, dated October 08, 1878.  This wire is called "Scutt's Arrow Plate & Miles One Point Twice Wrapped Staple Barb Combination Barbs" by collectors. (ref Hagemeier 41-F VARIATION).  This wire features two twisted together round line wires.   Scutt barb is made from a sheet metal plate arrowhead shaped, and held by the wrap of the two lines.  Miles one point staple is made by wrapping a round wire twice around both line wires, with only one exposed point.  Wire sample shows light pitting on the lines and barbs.    There are three barbs, well spaced, and cut is well centered.  There is some bending of barbs, but no broken, bent, or missing points.
