Part of an estate we purchased with some interesting one-of-a-kind entertainment memorabilia.
This is an original 1931 pen, ink and pencil caricature drawing by famed entertainment artist John Decker. It is not a copy or reproduction of any type. There is only one original, and this is it.
This was done to promote the play Porgy, performed in 1931 at the Geary Theater in San Francisco. The play starred Bernice Pilot, Buddy Williams, Charles Moore (all 3 in this drawing) and many others. I believe this original work was to be run in the newspaper to promote the play.
The art seems to have been sketched out in pencil first, then done in ink after, with notes on the back. Condition is very nice, with just enough toning and aging to have a nice honest patina of age. Note the tape residue along the top edge and white touch-up on the man's cap. Unframed, no backing, done on heavy art paper.
Measures 10" by 14" overall. Proper and respectful shipping practices are always observed here. Thanks!
