Yerba mate, a decoction of dried, ground leaves and twigs of yerba mate, is a national drink in Latin American countries. The evergreen tree grows naturally only in Paraguay, Argentina, Brazil and Uruguay. To obtain an infusion of yerba mate, pour hot water over 1.5 tablespoons of dried leaves and brew. Traditionally, yerba mate is served in special ceramic vessels, and its preparation is a strict ritual.
