The third volume of the Lightning Archives series, “VINTAGE ALOHA SHIRTS,” introduces about 2,000 carefully selected shirts from Sun Surf’s collection of about 4,000 vintage aloha shirts in 10 books over a period of five years.

The third feature is the “Hula Girl,” an indispensable symbol of Hawaiian history that has been used in aloha shirt designs since the dawn of the aloha shirt. We will unravel the history of hula girls and take a closer look at aloha shirts that incorporate that history into their designs.

We also feature several early pieces made in the 1930s. Some of the pieces are museum-quality pieces that are among the top three in Sun Surf's archives, and are miraculously deadstock. We hope you will take a look at the beautiful colors of the shirts that were made nearly 100 years ago.
