The Australia Hotel was a hotel on Castlereagh Street Sydney NSW.

 From its opening in 1891 until its closure on 30 June 1971 and subsequent demolition, the hotel was considered "the best-known hotel in Australia", "the premier hotel in Sydney" and described itself as "The Hotel of the Commonwealth”.

 The hotel was situated in one of Sydney's important thoroughfares in the Sydney CBD.

 

Decimal Currency started in Australia on 14^th February 1966 and the pub was demolished on 30^th June 1971so this menu dates to that period.

 

The most expensive food on the menu is Lobster at $5.00 but my choice would be Duckling with Cherries at $4.20.

Remember, this was one of the Premier Restaurants in Australia and the Commonwealth.

 

Measures: 32cm x 28cm x 2cm approx.

(12 5/8in x 11in x 3/4in).

Weight: 642g.

 

CONDITION: In fair to good original used condition and showing wear consistent with age and use.

Inside plastic cover is wrinkled.

Front and back covers slightly untidy with a couple of spots here and there.

Small tear to the edge of binding, front cover, lower right.

All visible in photos.

Menu itself is fine and clear with no damage.

A nice remnant
