Liberica Coffee (Coffea sp.) is a species of coffee distinct from Arabica and Robusta, known for its exceptionally large beans and tall, robust trees that can grow over 9 meters in height. Native to West and Central Africa, Liberica is prized for its strong resistance to pests and diseases and its adaptability to hot, humid lowland climates. The flavor profile of Liberica coffee is bold and unique—often described as smoky, woody, or fruity, with a full body and low acidity. The aroma can be floral or jackfruit-like, and the taste may include notes of dark chocolate, tamarind, or dried fruit. Due to its unusual taste and lower caffeine content compared to Robusta, Liberica appeals to a niche segment of coffee drinkers looking for something different from mainstream varieties. Its beans are asymmetrical and irregular in shape, which makes them easily distinguishable from other coffee species. Though global production is limited, Liberica plays a vital cultural and economic role in countries like the Philippines, Malaysia, and parts of Indonesia.
